Ralph my friend, you are not alone! I have been laid off for 1 year and it truly hurts! My biggest gripe with the whole process is the total lack of ability to get in contact with the state office in Nashville to answer basic questions on the procedures for applying, weekly certification, etc. So far I have discovered that there are 3 basic tiers. Tier 1 of course is the initial certification which is basically one year. Then you have to recertify for tier 2 for up to 20 weeks. Then comes tier 3 which I have not reached yet and have been given no info on. I will tell you that the correspondence you receive on your remaining time available can be deceiving! For instance, in my case, I received notice on December 2, 2009 that I had 13 weeks remaining on my initial claim. "Big sigh of rlief!" but it was short lived! The 4th check I received of this "13" informed me that I had exhausted my benefits and needed to call Nashville to recertify. After 5 days of hitting the redial button from 9 AM to 5 PM I got thru. In my conversation with a real life person (I was on hold for 45 minutes by the way), I learned that the letter I received in Dec,09 left out one very important piece of info. It should have stated "up to 13 weeks" or your year end date, whichever comes first! As it stands, I'm still waiting for my next check to arrive! |
